Van Horn Design, APC is a full-service New Orleans-located architecture practice specializing in custom residential renovations, additions, and new builds. Our projects span several states across historic, urban, suburban, coastal, and rural settings. We aim to create a relaxed yet professional working environment for our team, and strong relationships are vital to our success.
We are seeking for an energetic and talented part-time Architectural Design Professional to join our small team in our newly renovated Uptown New Orleans office space. Candidates for the position should have one to three years of residential design practice in a professional function. The Architectural Design Professional will work closely with the Principal, James Van Horn, through all phases of design and construction, including production and detailing of construction drawings.
Appropriate qualifications:
   » Professional degree in architecture or interior design
   » 1-3 years of professional practice in residential architecture or interior design
   » Strong REVIT proficiency and practice in a professional function
   » Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Adobe Suite
   » capability to work both collaboratively and independently on conceptual and detailed construction drawings under the guidance of the Principal
   » Strong analytical and problem-solving expertise
   » Excellent verbal, written, and visual communication expertise to convey ideas and cultivate strong relationships
   » Thrives in a growing and evolving work environment, where efficiency and agility are key
   » Energized by a start-up mentality and comfortable wearing multiple hats simultaneously
Job responsibilities:
   » Measuring and documenting existing conditions and translating them into REVIT models
   » Drawing production in REVIT for all phases of design, including construction detailing
   » Learning and managing established BIM and graphic standards through a deep knowledge of REVIT
   » Corresponding and coordinating with clients, contractors, and consultants
   » Reviewing shop drawings and submittals during the construction phase
   » Collaborating through all phases of design with the Principal
   » Ancillary tasks that may reasonably be required to carry out primary tasks, including minor administrative tasks related to firm operations and project management

   » Direct hands-on practice and mentorship from the Principal
   » Opportunity to contribute substantially to all phases of the project, including overall design concept
   » gain credit towards the NCARB Architectural practice Program (AXP) to meet requirements for architectural licensure in a US jurisdiction
   » Flexible work environment and schedule. Expected workload is 20-30 hours per week but may fluctuate depending on workload
   » This is an in-person position, but there may be opportunities for remote work in the future
