DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The World is a one-hour, nationally distributed weekday radio public affairs program co-produced by GBH and PRX. The show offers a mix of news, features, interviews, and music from around the globe, developed specifically for an American audience. The World's companion website, theworld.org, offers a similar mix of news and features along with slideshows, videos, blog posts, podcasts, and interactive graphics that expand on the radio content. The World and theworld.org use social media and other significant tools to maximize user engagement and enhance the user practice.

JOB OVERVIEW
The World Engineer works closely with The World's editorial and digital staff in assuring the quality of the overall sound of a live, everyday current affairs program. This involves running the live board, mixing radio stories and ensuring all equipment is in working order.

Thispositionis located in Boston, MA in our Brighton Office and is an on-site position.

EDUCATION AND practice
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work practice. 1-3 years' practice in the production and broadcast of audio programs including some practice engineering a live news show.

Connect and record interviews via apps and phone lines.

Carry out sound checks and quality control checks to ensure all audio elements meet company standards.

Ensure sound quality across all work.

Collaborate with hosts, reporters and other members of the team to create broadcast quality content for a national radio program.

Familiarity with operating an audio board including maintaining quality sound levels.

Basic expertise of different audio software and platforms both analog and digital.
   »
Be able to work under strict deadlines.
   »
Strong imagination and a availability to experiment.
   »
Basic expertise of the creative use of sound and the capability to work calmly under stress while producing a live dynamic news program.
