Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill 1 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Student Accountant position for the Treasury at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position is responsible for assisting the Cashier's team with reception desk greeting, data entry, deposit processing, and account research. The team is responsible for all Oregon State University deposit activity recording and reconciliation, cash and cash handling services, and coordinates electronic receipt compliance programs. this function will specifically provide assistance to students and student clubs, processing received payments mailed in for student accounts, the OSU veterinary hospital clients, and other third-party payers.

Position tasks 80% -
   » Assist students, student clubs and other diverse population of reception desk visitors.
   » Sort incoming USPS and OSU mail.
   » Prepare received payments for data entry: validate account ID, compare amount paid to amount due, note any discrepancies for accountant or manager to direct how to process.
   » Keep backup documentation orderly for reference on discrepancies.
   » Perform deposit posting utilizing a cashier session to apply mailed check payments and web departmental deposits to the correct account in the OSU Banner database.
   » At completion of data entry, balance everyday work by comparing the total of all received payments to the summary screen of transactions in Banner; research and resolve any discrepancies (keying errors, omitted payments, incorrect payment codes, etc.), and submit bundled work to accountant or manager for final posting.
   » Opportunities to assist cash and cash handling activities and reconciliation research and accounting entry.

   » General office support.
   » Record maintenance and administrative support:
   » Scan and file documents into archiving database, process returned mail by updating addresses in Banner database, update Excel reports and transaction logs, assist manager with creating organized lists and timelines for projects.
   » Other tasks as assigned.

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

   » capability to complete accurate data entry.
   » capability to concentrate on detailed projects and provide status updates on progress toward completion.
   » Willing and able to be customer facing for in person interactions.
   » Demonstrable examples of being flexible with the type and volume of work, as certain times of the term will require focused high volume data entry, and other times this position will support the office with general office support.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications Prior work practice in banking, office setting doing computer input, retail with cash handling, or similar environment. practice with Microsoft Office Excel and Word, or similar applications.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule Busy office environment, workspace in open floor plan secure office. Some lifting of mail bins and parcels (up to approx. 10 pounds) and extended time seated at a computer workstation.
