Job Summary The Department of Forest Ecosystems and Society invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, fixed-term Instructor position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.

This position consists of instruction/teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of Tourism, Recreation and Adventure leadership abilities both in-person and on-line, and service responsibilities. The primary purpose of this position is to foster critical thinking, advance student's expertise and expertise by providing excellence in teaching and instruction in areas such as sustainable tourism, sustainable recreation, natural resource policy and management, public lands management, and/or economics of tourism and recreation. They will develop new courses, put existing courses on-line, develop and revise course materials, deliver lectures, lead labs or seminars, lead discussions and other class activities, administer and grade course assignments and exams, advise teaching adjuncts, and incorporate high impact teaching practices. They will also participate in curriculum decisions and revisions. The individual will teach a variety of courses-both online (Ecampus) and in-person-in the Tourism, Recreation, and Adventure leadership abilities and in the Natural Resources Bachelor's of Science (BS) degree programs.

The incumbent will participate in departmental, college, and university level affairs and governance at a level appropriate to the PD. Service is also expected in support of government, industry, academic organizations, and other professional groups and associations.

Key Responsibilities 90% - Teaching and Mentoring:
   » Teach approximately 27 to 30 credits per year, including online (Ecampus) and in-person instruction at either the undergraduate or graduate-level.
   » Develop or redevelop courses as needed, work with ECampus to transition existing courses to on-line, prepare, update, and present teaching materials; create and grade assignments, quizzes, and exams; assess grades; and hold office hours, as necessary.
   » Teaching assignments may be adjusted to reflect the needs of the FES Department.

10% - Service:
   » Participate in departmental, college, and university level affairs and governance, including leadership abilities in curriculum and program development. The incumbent may balance service to the institution with service to other professional groups and associations.
   » Participate in at least one workshop/activity/training annually (as approved by the manager) that enhances the commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion; provide the manager with a short report on how new expertise will be applied to day-to-day work.

   » A Master's degree focused on sustainable tourism, outdoor recreation, natural resource policy and management, collaborative governance, public lands management, or similar.
   » Life practices, training, and/or education that demonstrates a commitment to promoting the values and mission articulated in the College of Forestry's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity Strategic Plan.
   » practice in teaching at the college level.
   » Demonstrable commitment to student success and/or evidence of exceptional pedagogical performance and continued education.
   » Evidence of effective interpersonal and communication expertise (written and verbal) enabling collaboration with a broad spectrum of students, teachers, researchers, and other professionals.

   » A PhD degree focused on sustainable tourism, outdoor recreation, natural resource policy and management, collaborative governance, public lands management, or similar.
   » Professional practice in the natural resource recreation or tourism fields.
   » Formal training in course development, pedagogical practices, and high impact student learning.

   » practice with innovative pedagogies such as flipped, engaged, field-located, online, or hybrid learning.
   » Evidence of effective teaching and mentoring.
Working Conditions / Work Schedule Teaching Ecampus courses often involves working outside a traditional M-F workweek, sometimes with expectations of responding to students and grading materials on weekends and/or evenings. When teaching all Ecampus classes, position may be authorized for remote work as agreed upon by the employee and manager.
