Job Summary University Housing & Dining Services, at Oregon State University, is looking to fill multiple Food Service Worker 2 positions.

These are full-time, academic year (10-month), classified positions on the Corvallis campus. There is the possibility of the positions being extended over the summer months due to campus and conference business.

Job responsibilities:
Perform a variety of food preparation, customer service and food service activities like preparing simple foods to meet customers' preferences, cashiering, making coffee drinks, washing dishes, stocking restaurants, etc., while maintaining a positive attitude. Some positions may perform leadwork.

University Housing & Dining Services offers a variety of dining options across the Oregon State University campus. We are a self-operated food service department that serves food in micro- restaurants using fresh ingredients.

We are known for the great care we take of students and other guests.

University Housing & Dining Services houses over 4,800 students and offers a variety of living and dining options in 15 residence halls, three dining centers, a market, catering, and 10-14 convenience and coffee shop locations across the Corvallis campus. We employ over 150 professional dining employees and 800 student employees. We provide clean, sanitary working environments for our guests and employees that are regularly maintained and serviced. Key Responsibilities 55% FOOD PREPARATION, SAFETY & SANITATION
   » Perform routine food service tasks, e.g. cleaning, dispensing beverages, serving prepared foods, stocking.
   » Participate in the preparation of standardized food items and/or coffee drinks, as required.
   » Ensure proper preparation procedures are followed in making all menu items by following recipes, and customer preferences, when called for.
   » Use food service equipment such as, but not limited to, grills, deep fryers, ovens, steamers, steam kettles, slicers, can openers, coffee machines, espresso machines, dish machines and knives.
   » Maintain a clean and sanitary operation by performing established cleaning tasks, following all health department guidelines for safe food handling.
   » Prepare proper sanitation buckets and change out every two hours or sooner as needed.
   » Write down food, refrigeration and/or dish machine temperature on logs.
   » Clean and properly care for equipment, e.g. dish machine, display equipment, reach-in refrigerator units, cooking equipment, coffee equipment, cash register system components, etc., according to directions and established schedules.
   » Ensure that all dishes, glassware, flatware, trays, pots, and pans are washed and handled in an approved sanitary manner; and that these items are then re-supplied to their appropriate storage and/or serving areas in a timely manner.
   » Clean and properly sanitize the serving/preparation area or dish room interior (walls, floors, counters, belts, sinks) and all carts used for dish and flatware storage and transport as determined by established procedures and schedules.
   » Empty contents, clean and sanitize trash and recycling containers in the dining center according to established procedure.
   » Keep work areas clean, organized, and sanitary on an continuing basis as work is performed all over the shift by sweeping, mopping floors, sanitizing surfaces, and disposing of trash as necessary and at the end of each shift.
   » As needed, set up and open unit and/or ensure the unit is clean and stocked at the end of shift.
   » Work safely according to general principles and specifically established procedures.
   » Follow safety and sanitation standards.
   » Communicate any unsafe conditions or needed equipment repairs to management immediately.

20% CUSTOMER SERVICE
   » Greet customers and coworkers with a smile and positive attitude.
   » Serve internal and external customers in a prompt and courteous manner.
   » Provide friendly, polite, expertiseable and efficient service.
   » Ensure quality products are prepared, and seating areas are clean and sanitary.
   » Ensure location opens on time.
   » Attractively display and serve food products, following portion control guidelines.
   » Maintain established high standards of service and production.
   » Provide information about products served (ingredients, allergens, serving size, prices, etc.) when asked.
   » Operate a cash register, performing cashier tasks following procedures as indicated by Dining Services cash handling policies regarding item entry and the payment process, whether cash, credit card or meal plan.
   » Participate in development and support of improvements to customer service.
   » Convey customer and student employee needs and suggestions to managers.

15% ASSIST LEAD WORKER OR PERFORM LEAD WORK IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS:
   » Assist students in the safe and proper use of all equipment in the dish room or restaurant.
   » Assist student employees in food and drink preparation and portion sizes.
   » function model and ensure student employees are following all safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
   » Assist student employees in policy and procedures for customer service, food safety, stocking, cash handling, proper food handling and preparation, and portioning.
   » Emphasize cleanliness; function model and ensure students are following all sanitation guidelines, including hand washing, glove use, cutting glove use, sanitizing counter areas and equipment on a regular basis, sweeping, mopping floors, and disposing of trash all over and at the end of shifts.
   » Assist students in rotating stock and labeling open food items.
   » Ensure that opening and/or closing procedures are followed.
   » Assist students in the efficient and sanitary operation of the dish room to keep breakage to a minimum.
   » Check-in with manager everyday regarding tasks needing more attention to be completed.
   » Escalate any concerns to lead worker.

5% INVENTORY/STORAGE
   » Keep an adequate supply of plates, beverages, glasses, flatware, paper products and cleaning supplies in assigned work area
   » Stock all assigned areas of service such as, but not limited to, salad bars, service lines, grab and go cases, other displays, and storage areas, to always keep full.
   » Fill condiment, cup, and napkin dispensers, as well as trays, plates, and bowls to maintain service levels all over meals.
   » Put away warehouse deliveries as required.
   » Rotate and properly store food, beverage, and non-food items. Label as needed.
   » Keep storage shelves and service counters clean and neat.
   » Notify senior/lead staff member when supplies need to be ordered.
   » Assist with monthly inventory process as assigned.

5% MISCELLANEOUS
   » Work cooperatively with other staff and student workers to complete everyday tasks.
   » Ensure security of products.
   » Perform tasks in the dining unit as assigned, which may include: cleaning fryers, general cleaning and upkeep of restrooms.
   » Use a computer to check work schedule, complete timesheets, fill out online forms, and check employer-provided email.
   » Other tasks as assigned.

   » Requires a valid Food Handler's Permit within 30 days of employment. Must maintain certification all over service with UHDS.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule WORKING CONDITIONS
   » This is a physically active job in a commercial kitchen environment. Incumbent will practice long periods of standing on a hard floor; working with commercial kitchen equipment; and fluctuations in work flow, temperature, and noise level.
   » Must be able to work shift on your feet and perform frequent arm movements.
   » The employee in this position will often be required to lift/carry/push/pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
   » Will require work in areas that prepare and handle raw meat, as well as most common food allergens, including gluten.
   » OSU is a 100% tobacco-free campus.

WORK SCHEDULE
   » UHDS dining operations run seven days per week, so weekend and holiday work may be required. OSU requires the capability to work a flexible schedule located on the needs of the business.
   » Must be flexible and willing to work in any area of the dining center as directed.
   » Good attendance is crucial for stcapability and day-to-day business needs. Must follow attendance schedule and break schedule, and must be on time and in uniform when shift begins.
   » This position is deemed essential; and the incumbent is expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency, and other University work curtailments or closures.
