Position InformationGeneral InformationVacancy Open to All Candidates Employment Type Permanent - Full-time If time-limited, note appointment end date Hours per week 40 Months per year 12 Position Number 001878 NC income Grade Equivalency GN10 Classification Title Research Operations Manager - Contributing Working Title Research Operations Manager income Range $53,853 - 56,925 Anticipate Hiring Range $53,853 - $56,000 FLSA Status Non Exempt Division Academic Affairs Department College of Engineering (Col) Work Unit Civil and Environmental Engr Work Schedule Monday-Friday 8:00am to 5:00 p.m. Primary Purpose of Position Supports Research/Instructional Laboratory Operations by assisting in project management, digital tooling/digital fabrication conceptualization, providing fabrication of specialized equipment to satisfy faculty research initiatives, instructional needs, conferring with research personnel to recommend procedures used in the development of experimental research equipment, assisting in the preparation of plans and specifications for such equipment and experimentation, and assisting with student project requests. capability to repair and maintain laboratory equipment essential to the Civil and Environmental Engineering curriculums. Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two years of general research practice; or equivalent combination of training and practice. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. University Preferred Appropriate qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university and two years of general research or laboratory practice preferably including supervision of others; or an equivalent combination of training and practice. Familiarity with a variety of the research fields concepts, practices and procedures. Demonstrated practice and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Essential Job tasks The primary function of this position: » Manage and supervise all activities necessary to operate one or more research and instructional work settings such as a laboratory, shop, field and/or classroom (hereafter referred to as "laboratory?). » Facility planning and maintenance, inventory control, purchasing and maintenance of laboratory equipment, safety & security control, monitoring environmental risks and quality control, and supervising student activities. » Development/refresh of policies regarding access and training may be necessary. Teamwork is one of the important aspects of the position. Other Work Responsibilities Departmental Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education Ideal expertise include: ( willing to train the right person in expertise that they may not currently have ) » expertise/practice of/with fabrication/making and general construction methods such as carpentry, machining, welding, 3-D printing or other means, material handling. » practice and capability driving trucks with trailers or forklifts. » practice and capability to instruct students in safe operation of hand tools and typical shop equipment. » practice and capability with mentoring student projects in the shop (like steel bridge, concrete canoe, student research projects). » practice in management of stocks, inventories and material stores.
