Minimum practice/Education Four-year degree or equivalent combination of training and practice necessary to execute the work.

Departmental Preferred practice, expertise, Training/suitable education Basic knowledge in Genomics/ Molecular biology/DNA and RNA Sequencing with some laboratory practices. Applicant must have strong organizational expertise, work very well independently, be able to collaborate and communicate with participating labs of the Genomics facility in the department of Biological Sciences. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic knowledge of various sequencing techniques (i.e. NGS, Sanger sequencing, etc) is needed. Applicant with practices in handling MiSeq type Illumina Genome Sequencer and Illumina Basespace Sequence Hub cloud services is preferred. Master's Degree preferred, not required.

tasks and Responsibilities This position is for a research adjunct for 20 hours per week to execute routine operation and maintenance of a Illumina MiSeq genome sequencer in a newly established Genomics Core in the department of Biological Sciences. Under the supervision of a Director/manager/Principal Investigator for this facility, this person will work closely with the participating laboratories within the Department of Biological Sciences to prepare samples and carry out sequencing runs on a everyday basis, perform quality control checks and initial pipeline analysis of data, and maintain data storage files. Additional tasks will include general laboratory maintenance and operations.

Other Work/Responsibilities Performs clerical tasks including filing, ordering supplies, preparing statistics and other activities as assigned. Prepares and maintains adequate stock of reagents, standards, and control materials for the performance of testing at assigned workstation and notifies manager of any shortages or problems.
