Min Hourly Rate $14.20 (Standard); $13.20 (Non-Urban); $15.45 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $18.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (an anticipated 10 hours per week) Undergraduate Technician position for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU). We are pursuing a dedicated and detail-oriented undergraduate student to join our marine sedimentology laboratory. The prosperous candidate will work closely with our team of researchers to assist in various tasks related to the analysis of marine sediment samples. Position tasks Key Responsibilities include: » Micro Fossil Picking: Carefully picking micro fossils from sediment samples under the guidance of senior researchers. This task requires a keen eye for detail and the capability to work with precision. » Sieving and Washing: Performing sieving and washing techniques to separate sediment fractions and prepare samples for further analysis. This includes following established protocols and maintaining accurate records of sample processing. » Lab Equipment Maintenance: Assisting in the maintenance and cleaning of laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionality and hygiene standards are met. » Microscope Analysis: Utilizing microscopes to examine sediment samples and identify micro fossils or other significant microstructures. Training will be provided, but a basic knowledge of microscopy techniques is advantageous. » Data Documentation: Recording detailed observations and data obtained during sample processing and analysis accurately. This may involve using digital tools or laboratory notebooks to document findings. » Collaboration: Collaborating effectively with team members to accomplish research objectives and contribute to the overall success of the project. This includes communicating findings and discussing results with colleagues and managers.
