East Carolina University is the third largest university in the University of North Carolina system with approximately 28,000 FTS and a staff of over 6,000. The university is comprised of more than 7 million square feet of facilities located on approximately 1400 acres with physical assets in excess of $1.5 billion. This includes the Main, Health Sciences, and West Research Campuses, and satellite locations all over North Carolina connected with university programs. Facilities Services has an annual budget in excess of $30 million and employs approximately 500 FTE. Major functions include facilities maintenance and housekeeping services. Facilities Services primary purpose is to plan and perform corrective and preventive maintenance functions on all building structures and equipment and utility infrastructure. Corrective maintenance returns equipment to optimal design performance after failure or upon degradation from age, adverse operation conditions, etc. Preventive maintenance minimizes equipment failures and reduces corrective maintenance. Job tasks Primary tasks of this position include, but are not limited to, weeding, mowing, blowing, edging, planting, pruning, spraying, and other miscellaneous tasks in maintaining turf, shrubs, trees, and flowers. Other grounds-related tasks include trash pickup and removal, irrigation installation and maintenance, street and parking lot maintenance, storm drain maintenance, and snow and ice removal. Minimum Education/practice Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to execute the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification. License or Certification required by statute or regulation None Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education Two years of practice with a professional landscaping firm, nursery, or a medium-to-large grounds maintenance operation is preferred. practice in operating grounds-related equipment including, but not limited to, riding lawn mowers, backhoes, forklifts, skid steers, etc. is preferred. Candidate should be able to execute strenuous manual labor in all weather conditions. Candidate should possess a valid NC driver's license and be eligible to operate a state-owned vehicle in conformity with the ECU property policy. A pesticide license is preferred.
