Title : Lighting Director 1
Status: Full Time Non-Exempt
Reports to: Sr. Director, Production Center Operations and Production
JOB OBJECTIVE:
Primary responsibilities include but not restricted to lighting director for studio and field productions; lighting console programming; lighting design.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
   » Design, set-up and/or program lighting console for in-house productions.
   » When assigned as Lighting Director supervises the technical staff as required by the collective bargaining agreement.
   » expertise/practice with studio and robotic camera operation.
   » expertise/practice with Video Shading operation
   » Other tasks as may be assigned in conformity with union jurisdiction.
expertise & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
   » Familiarity with LED studio lights - operation and maintenance
   » Lighting board practice with the EOS family series (GIO and GIO @5)
   » Working expertise of other production positions including; ENG/EFP, Studio Camera, Video Shading and Stage Management.
   » Must have the capability to work under pressure.
   » Must be able to work shifts that could span any portion of a 24-hour day.
   » Must be able to lift, carry and drag heavy loads ( > 50lbs. )
Must possess necessary visual acuity (corrected or not) to discern subtleties in color, intensity, and shading.
EDUCATION & practice:
Minimum seven years of progressively responsible practice as a Lighting Director, board operator and camera operator at the network.
LOCATION
WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations. We are a largely local workforce located out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA. WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible. Most positions located in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the function.
