Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill 2-3 Peer Advisor positions for Global Opportunities at Oregon State University (OSU), beginning in Summer 2024 and 2-3 additional positions beginning in Fall 2024. The position is open to students in Corvallis with 1-2 positions available for remote work from the Cascades campus or Ecampus.

The OSU GO Peer Advisor Program is a leadership abilities and professional development program for students who want to engage with OSU's diverse student population, particularly underrepresented groups, to promote the internationalization of their peers' practice at OSU.

Peer Advisors represent the Office of Global Opportunities by serving as advocates for academic and pre-professional international and intercultural practices. They effectively communicate the accessibility and benefits of participating in OSU GO-approved programs to their peers. Peer Advisors practice their public relations and marketing expertise through social media campaigns and presentations designed for current and prospective students. They support OSU GO's administrative work by assisting with special outreach projects and clerical work.

In alignment with their own expertise and interests, Peer Advisors are encouraged to propose new ways to reach potential students and educate the campus on the mission and value of international education. Peer Advisors are a vital component in motivating students to take advantage of the varied opportunities offered by the Office of Global Opportunities.

The average work hours are 8-15 hours per week (up to 40 hours per week may be available in summer). The starting pay rate is $15.50 per hour with the possibility of raise(s) contingent upon length of service and exemplary performance. Typical business hours are 9am - 5pm. Occasional evening and weekend hours are required to support student programming and outreach.

Position tasks
   » Conduct initial 1:1 advising meetings with students interested in education abroad opportunities
   » Manage online student advising applications
   » Provide general information about all OSU GO-approved programs
   » Connect students with appropriate support and advising offices for additional resources
   » Plan, facilitate and/or participate in general outreach and promotional events (ex. classroom visits, affinity group presentations, admissions and new student orientation events, campus fairs and tabling, etc.)
   » Assist in the organization and facilitation of OSU GO events such as Global Opportunity fairs, pre-departure orientation, and re-entry programming
   » Manage social media and implement print marketing campaigns
   » Connect with program alumni to solicit marketing materials and facilitate connections with prospective students
   » Respond to general inquiries from students and the OSU community (email, phone, drop-ins)
   » Participate in regular team check-ins, training meetings, and 1:1 meetings with manager

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

   » Competent use of or availability to increase proficiency with Google and Microsoft Office software, Canvas, Terra Dotta application management, Teams, Instagram/Social Media, Canva (design website)

   » Connections across campus with OSU academic units/colleges, student life, residential life, athletics, and any/all other student groups and organizations
   » capability to articulate the benefits of experiential learning either from practice or theoretical knowledge
Working Conditions / Work Schedule
   » Peer Advisors (excluding Ecampus students) will conduct in-person, on-campus work at work stations in a shared work area and therefore should expect potential distractions and interruptions.
   » If physically able, employees may be asked to lift or carry event supplies, equipment, or materials weighing up to 25 pounds to/from outreach events.
   » If physically able, employees will represent OSU GO at fairs or other outreach events which often require being active or standing for 1-3 hours and at times bending and crouching.
   » This position will typically be performed in-person, with remote work approved for specific activities and situations.
