Min Hourly Rate $14.20 (Standard); $13.20 (Non-Urban); $15.45 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill five part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Columnist positions for the Orange Media Network (OMN) at Oregon State University (OSU). The Columnist is responsible for pitching, researching and writing columns for the print and/or online issues of The everyday Barometer or OMN magazines. The Columnist employment dates are as follows: The 2023-24 academic year Pay Rate: Full Start: $56 per column NOTE: All positions and hours remain contingent on funding availcapability for the 2022-2023 academic year Position tasks Columnist Responsibilities » Pitches, researches and produces columns that have news values for the OSU community. » Produces columns of between 500-800 words, with at least three appropriate sources including interviews, demonstrate clear news values and have a clear stance/opinion » Participates in readouts with editors to make any necessary revisions in style or content » Suggests photo and/or video coverage to enhance column presentation online » Shares stories on social media to reach audience » Attends all staff meetings as required by editor-in-chief » Act in a professional manner at all times and create and maintain collegial working relationships with fellow student leaders, organization members, sources, stakeholders, partners, collaborators and the community » Other tasks as assigned by the adviser Communication » Respond to emails, messages, team chats and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN » Ensure you are using, checking and responding to project management platform (Basescamp, Discord, etc.) » Notify adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur leadership abilities » Follow all OMN policies and procedures » Act professionally at all times » Ensure content is centered on equitable representation and inclusion, with attention to impact on historically underrepresented and marginalized communities and constituencies Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: http://fa.oregonstate.edu/stu-manual/500-employment-eligibility-requiremen ts » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
