Listing description
POSITION PURPOSE
The Investigative Reporter, Health will further WFYI and Side Effects Public Media's in-depth and accountcapability reporting. This reporter will uncover wrongdoing and produce high impact accountcapability health journalism that has local, regional and national impact. This person's skills and curiosity will be a driving factor in our health coverage and their work will involve mid and long-term investigative projects and deep dives into a range of issues related to health equity and public health. this function reports to WFYI's Managing Editor, Health who also leads our regional health reporting collaboration, Side Effects Public Media. The function also collaborates closely with WFYI's community engagement health specialist and other enterprise health reporters at WFYI in Indianapolis and regionally at Side Effects partner stations.
This is a mission-critical function for our station as WFYI sets goals to extend the reach of our local, statewide, regional and national equity reporting to larger, more diverse audiences.

?Essential functions
   » capability to execute data-driven reporting, file FOIA requests and shoe-leather reporting to seek out powerful and untold stories.
   » Value, contribute to, and sustain WFYI's commitment to representing the rich diversity that is our community and amplifying the stories that represent the practices of all.
   » Produce audio and digital storytelling that uses clear, concise writing to inform our audience why a story is important to them.
   » Collaborate with health team members to produce sound-rich, narrative audio reports and digital media for WFYI.org, Side Effects, other collaboration partners and social media.
   » Partner and coordinate with Indiana Public Broadcasting and WFYI's other collaboration partners on coverage and multi-platform projects.
   » Contribute everyday coverage for broadcast and online whenever a development occurs on one of the health coverage priorities.
   » Contribute everyday coverage on any coverage priority, as necessary.
   » Cultivate skills and sources in public health, health care and health policy to identify and pitch investigative, enterprise and everyday stories.
   » Integrate audience interaction with reporting by working with the health team's community engagement specialist and making engaging content for social media.
   » Schedule flexibility (some evening, weekend and holiday work).
EDUCATION AND/OR practice
to execute this job prosperously, an individual must have the following education and/or practice unless otherwise noted below.
Required:
   » A minimum of five years of reporting practice, including a track record of investigative reporting.
   » Familiarity with NPR and other public media journalism.
   » Excellent communication skills and capability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under deadline pressure.
   » Multiplatform practice including writing and AP Style, shooting video, taking photos, posting to social media and on content management systems.
   » capability to work simultaneously on short and long-term projects.
Preferred:
   » practice with computer-assisted reporting.
   » practice in data analysis methods.
   » Previous work in both broadcast and digital news reporting.
   » Familiarity with community engagement journalism.
   » Previous work in collaborations.
