Job Summary The Department of Veterinary Biomedical Sciences in the Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a part-time 0.40 FTE, 12-month, fixed-term, Faculty Research adjunct position. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Department Head.

Appointment at the Faculty Research adjunct rank is anticipated; however, appointment at a promoted rank may be considered depending upon the qualifications of the prosperous candidate.

This position works independently under general guidance in a veterinary research laboratory in the Dept. of Biomedical Sciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at OSU to execute everyday tasks primarily for bench and translational research, including but not limited to cell and tissue culture, immunologic techniques including multiplex and ELISA testing, DNA and RNA extraction, qPCR and qRT-PCR sample preparation, tissue dissection, flow cytometric preparation, slide staining including immunologic labeling, and other commonly used techniques. The position will include training and teaching of students in laboratory techniques, and refinement of and contribution to experimental protocols and design.

Key Responsibilities 35% Plan and perform experiments in support of research projects in lab and/or field located on knowledge of scientific theory. Interpret and perform basic analyses of results, drawing conclusions from results.

5% Review literature on an continuing basis to remain current with new procedures and related research.

15% Offer suggestions regarding modifications to procedures and protocols.

5% Maintain detailed records of experiments and results.

5% Contribute to publication of findings as co-author and participate in the preparation of other written documents, including procedures, presentations, and proposals.

10% Help with general lab maintenance as needed; maintain lab stock, manage chemical inventory and safety records, and provide general lab support as needed.

25% Help orient and train new staff or students and supervise student research activities.

What You Will Need
   » Bachelor's Degree in biology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or related field.
   » Thorough knowledge of biological sciences principles and basic proficiency in DNA and RNA extraction, qPCR and qRT-PCR sample preparation and analysis, antibody labeling for flow cytometry, cell culture and sterile hood technique.
   » General computer expertise and capability to quickly lgain and master computer programs.
   » Strong analytical expertise and excellent judgment.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

   » Must have correctible vision to execute tasks of the job.
   » capability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.

   » Position may require repetitive motion.
Position work schedule is generally within the standard M-F work week and hours of 8 am - 5 pm, with specific hours to be determined located on laboratory experimental schedules and employee's availcapability.
