Job Summary The University Exploratory Studies Program (UESP) is seeking a Consultant - Academic Advisor. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The University Exploratory Studies Program (UESP) is the academic home at Oregon State University for undecided/exploratory students who have chosen to explore major options before declaring. UESP is part of the Office of the Dean of Students in the Division of Student Affairs. The Consultant-Academic Advisor provides direct academic and career exploration advising to students in UESP, including monitoring students' progress towards choosing an academic major and maintaining appropriate program records and resource materials and will serve as primary advisor for UESP Ecampus students. The Consultant-Academic Advisor will also support the UESP Outreach and Instruction Coordinator with programs and projects related to our classroom offerings, First-Year student transitions and practice, and prospective student and family outreach. The Consultant-Academic Advisor reports to the Director of UESP and will work to uphold the mission and vision of the program.

Key Responsibilities 85% - PROVIDE DIRECT ACADEMIC ADVISING SERVICE AND MAJOR EXPLORATION GUIDANCE TO OSU ON-CAMPUS AND E-CAMPUS UNDERGRADUATES:
   » Serve as a referral agent for students needing services beyond academic advising.
   » Maintain professional standards of practice through participation and involvement in continuing education and professional development activities.
   » Maintain up-to-date files and records, as well as written reports and job-related data at the request of the Director.
   » As needed, assist with instruction of Academic Learning Services (ALS) 114 Career Decision Making and/or 191 UESP Student Transitions.

10% -REPRESENT UESP AT VARIOUS RECRUITMENT AND ORIENTATION EVENTS SUCH AS
   » Fall Preview, Beaver Open House, Orange and Black Days, START, and OSU Welcome.
   » Meet individually with prospective OSU students.
   » Assist with other UESP outreach as needed.
   » Help with marketing and promotion of UESP.
   » Other tasks as assigned.

What You Will Need
   » Masters degree in College Student Services Administration, Counseling, Academic Advising, Higher Education Administration, or related field.
   » knowledge of student development theory and global best practices in academic advising and support.
   » Demonstrated practice in either academic advising and/or academic support of undergraduate college students.
   » Demonstrated multicultural/cross-cultural competency and commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
   » Worksite is in an open office area with heavy traffic flow and constant activity, but employee will have a private office within the space to accommodate in-person and virtual appointments with individual students; capability to focus concentration is essential.
   » Conditions can especially be stressful during peak advising period the second half of each term and during new student orientations in the summer.
   » Frequent contact and work with a variety of faculty, staff, and students.
   » Regular handling of confidential information according to Oregon statutes and FERPA.
   » Requires working at a computer terminal and frequent interaction with technology tools.
   » Standard business hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm) are observed, but the position may require occasional weekend work.
