Posting DetailsPosition InformationPosting Number: 20121533Staff Working Title: Maintenance Worker Pay Rate: $35,000-$38,000 Employment Job Category: Clerical/Support Regular/Temporary: Regular If temporary, list duration: Type of Appointment: Fiscal Contract Period: 12 month Position Summary Information Position Summary: The Maintenance Worker is under general supervision and performs work in a variety of skilled maintenance areas to include mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and related areas. Position will be evenings from 1pm-9pm. Shifts will be Wednesday thru Sunday with Monday and Tuesday off. Austin Peay State University is a four-year public, doctoral-level university, with six colleges and four Chairs of Excellence. The University has an enrollment of over 9,000 students and is located in Clarksville, Tennessee, a community of an estimated 166,000 people located approximately 40 miles northwest of Nashville, TN. Primary tasks and Job responsibilities: » Perform a variety of carpentry tasks in the construction and maintenance of buildings and other facilities. » Perform a variety of plumbing tasks such as removing, replacing or repairing plumbing fixtures, water lines, etc. » Perform minor electrical repairs such as replacing switches, outlets, ballasts and lights. » Perform work of an unskilled, semi-skilled or skilled nature when necessary such as painting, masonry, etc. » Perform a variety of mechanical tasks such as preventative maintenance on air compressors, exhaust fans, etc. » Perform work on HVAC, air handler, etc. » Must wear proper PPE (safety shoes, hearing and eye protection)as required. » Perform other tasks as assigned. expertise, expertise, and Abilities: » expertise of methods, materials and procedures used in general repair and maintenance work. » expertise of occupational hazards and safety procedures. » expertise of machines, tools and equipment used in a variety of tasks as required. » capability to communicate effectively and appropriately. » capability to maintain confidentiality of records and information. » capability to interact in an effective and appropriate manner with diverse populations, the University community and the public. » capability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. » capability to use, clean, repair and maintain equipment, tools and machinery required in accomplishing tasks. » capability to evaluate situations and make decisions. » capability to follow oral and written instructions. » capability to work overtime as needed. » capability to work in an on-call capacity and inclement weather tasks. Physical Requirements: » Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. » Bending, twisting and lifting weights to 100lbs. » Heights and working on elevations of 60 feet. » Work of ladders and lifts. Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications: » High school graduate or equivalent. » Up to one year of specialized or technical training beyond high school. » A minimum of two (2) years of previous work practice in building and plant maintenance involving a variety of work such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, mechanical repair and HVAC. » Valid driver's license. » Basic computer literacy. » A background check will be required of the prosperous applicant. » An official transcript (if applicable) and names, addresses and phone numbers of three (3) references will be required for the prosperous applicant.
