Job Opportunity: City Government Reporter:PCBCJob description: City Government Reporter Listing description The Opportunity Join 90.5 WESA, Pittsburgh's NPR News Station, as the City Government Reporter! WESA seeks a reporter to cover Pittsburgh city government, elected officials and agencies, producing compelling features, breaking news, and newscast and digital updates for WESA's news broadcast and website. The prosperous reporter will cover policy, campaigns, and issues exploring the actions and accountcapability of city leaders and officials, with a focus on the human impact and results of government decisions. This full-time exempt position reports to the Government & Accountcapability Editor. What you'll do: » Research, report, write, and produce multimedia spot and feature stories for WESA's air and digital platforms, aligning with newsroom productivity goals. » Consistently generate and pitch creative, thoughtful and original story ideas in multiple media, while accepting and willingly executing assignments from newsroom managers. » Mix and edit audio reports, including in the field. » Write crisp, clear news reports on deadline for web. » Take still photos and video in the field. » Advance the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals of the newsroom. » Work during off-hours and weekends, as needed. » Make public appearances to enhance WESA's engagement and brand, as needed. » Participate in on-air and online fundraising, as needed. » Other tasks as assigned. expertise, expertise and Abilities: » Self-motivated team player with a track record of producing everyday news stories and features of interest to designated audiences. » Sound and ethical judgment, with a scrupulous commitment to objectivity, balance and fairness. » capability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. » practice in audio journalism is a plus (but not necessary). » Creativity and sound judgment in social media usage. » capability to travel all over the region and work flexible hours when necessary. Requirements: » Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent practice/training. » Three or more yearsof reporting practice in a professional newsroom environment. This is not an entry-level position. » practice covering city- or municipal-level government and politics is a plus. » Strong reporting, writing and technical expertise. » Honesty and integrity in all dealings. » Enthusiasm for the mission of PCBC and its stations. We provide competitive base salaries in a very affordable city. The minimum compensation for the City Government Reporter position is $47,000, commensurate with practice and capability.
