Job Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time Plumber position for the Facilities Services department at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Plumber will work as a part of the Facilities Operations & Maintenance team at Oregon State University (OSU) to provide plumbing services to departments and programs across campus. Oregon State University Facilities Services is committed to providing OSU campus departments and programs with responsive, quality and professional building maintenance and operations services in pursuit of accomplishing the mission of OSU. In support of this objective, we recognize the importance of a strong partnership with our customers.

This position will adhere to all OSU and Departmental policies and procedures.

The focus of the Facilities Services Plumbing unit is quality, efficiency, and customer service oriented Operational Maintenance, Repair, and Construction.

The purpose of this position is to provide quality, courteous, and timely facilities plumbing services to all internal and external customers; to directly support operations and maintenance; to operate, maintain, repair, and modernize equipment and systems in all facilities to provide continuous, reliable and efficient service; to answer after hours calls; provide quality work; to maintain and repair steam lines, plumbing utilities and fixtures, perform preventive maintenance; to estimate time, material, and resource needs; to coordinate work with supported units; and to provide professional quality services to all campus customers.

Key Responsibilities 65% Service work:
   » Unclogging drains, etc.
   » Operates various snakes, augers, jet machines, etc.
   » Assists contractors with repairs as needed.
   » Troubleshoots plumbing issues and orders parts as needed.
   » Performs repairs on water lines, drain lines, water heaters, faucets drinking fountains, water coolers, flushometers, etc.
   » Installs water filter setups and replaces filters as needed.
   » Applies basic expertise of steam and condensate systems or is willing to lgain such systems and assist with repair/replacement of traps, valves etc. as needed.
   » Other service calls as required.
   » Demo type work including: Remove, repair, replacement of radiators, steam and electric water heaters, valves, traps etc.

20% New construction:
   » Lab remodels, installing water/drain lines, new fixtures, equipment etc.
   » Using various materials such as copper, PVC, CPVC, Pex, lead, cast iron, galvanized pipe, polypropylene etc.
   » Prepares estimates for customers including time and material bids.
   » Works with customers to define scope of work and scheduling of work.
   » Keeps manager and customers advised on progress of work.

5% Estimating
   » Helps in planning new installations and alterations, consults with the Facilities Services Engineering section on projects, assists with man hours, material take-offs, and estimates and plan reviews.

5% Steam
   » Pack and grease expansion joints on steam lines in steam tunnels and in manhole.
   » Pack shut-off steam valve stems, repair or replace traps and steam lines.

5% Other tasks as Assigned
   » Works within safety rules of OSU and Facilities Services. Actively participates in the accident avoidance program including attending safety meetings, first aid and safety training programs.
   » Participation in quality review processes is an integral part of all Facilities Services positions. This includes interviewing selected customers as needed.
   » exercise good customer service communication expertise, as appropriate, on every job, keeping the customer and/or requestor informed of every job's progress through completion, and using door hangers or other notification devices where appropriate.
   » Actively participates in orientation, cross orientation, and committee activities as required.
   » Safely operate a University vehicle in performing tasks.
   » Any administrative responsibilities include, but are not limited to becoming familiar with all construction standards, standard operating procedures, policies and practices set forth for Facilities Services, follow all business rules, standard operating procedures, and administrative practices for work management tasks using the current CMMS system.
   » This position supports essential functions of campus operations and the incumbent may be expected to report to work during inclement weather, emergency and other University work curtailments or closures. The incumbent will be contacted by their direct manager or unit leadership abilities everyday for extended University delays or closures to determine if they are required to report to work.
What We Require
A valid Oregon Plumber's license; AND One of the following: One year of practice as a journey-level plumber; or Completion of an approved apprenticeship program.
What You Will Need
   » Must be able to effectively operate a pipe threader, metal cutting saw, bolt threading machine, electric & acetylene welding equipment, brakes, shears, rolls, elbow machines, barfolders, emery wheels, grinders and power shears.
   » The person in this position will often be required to lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing up to 75 lbs.
   » This position is required to work in and have access to all buildings at OSU, using a master key, therefore, this position is required to prosperously complete a criminal background check.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must prosperously complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver's license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
