Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Riparian Habitat Intern for Agricultural Sciences and Marine Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Oregon Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit (CRU) in the Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU) is seeking a seasonal technician to conduct riparian habitat assessments in the Fremont-Winema National Forest and assist with ecological research examining the effects of the 2020 Labor Day fires on wildlife habitat use in the Oregon Cascades. This is a full-time position with a three-month duration. The position will involve travel (~30%) from Corvallis to Klamath Falls, Oregon where they will assist U.S. Forest Service (USFS) personnel with data collection and field sampling. All travel expenses, including transportation, lodging, meals, and per-diem will be covered by the CRU.

The position will occur primarily (70%) in an indoor office work setting, where the applicant is expected to process, enter, and analyze wildlife occupancy data from remote logging devices deployed in areas affected by the 2020 Labor Day fires. The position will also require overnight travel (30%) to Klamath Falls, OR, where the technician will assist the USFS with riparian habitat delineation. This position will involve prolonged (6-8 day) periods of camping for field work. Conditions in forested habitat can be hazardous, so Information technology is imperative that the technician can promote a safe working atmosphere and follow all OSU and USGS-mandated safety protocols while in the field.

Position tasks (30%) Conduct riparian habitat assessments to delineate aspen stands and other riparian habitat types in the Fremont-Winema National Forest.

(50%) Use Timelapse software to tag and ID wildlife in trail camera photos.

(20%) Enter ecological data in excel and follow quality assurance/quality control procedures.

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

Additional Required Qualifications
   » Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record to use government vehicles
   » Must have up-to-date CPR/basic first aid training prior to field work

Preferred (Special) Qualifications Competitive candidates will have at least three months of practice assisting with field-located wildlife research and/or the capability to work outside under strenuous conditions. We will prioritize candidates with demonstrated practice collecting and processing data from remote data logging devices like trail cameras and ARUs and those with a working expertise of Microsoft Excel. The capability to identify Pacific Northwest plant species and wildlife is highly desirable.
