Position InformationPosting Number:: 20245022V Position Title:: Interpreter Mentor Posting Type: Student Hours/week:: No more than 20 hours/week during Spring and Fall; no more than 35 hours/week in Summer Eligibility:: Work study preferred but open to all students Semester: 2024-2025 Academic Year Location : Widger Law School Building Detailed Work Schedule: varies by student schedule and office needs Number of positions:: varies Department:: 241-Law School Instruction Contact Name:: Cheryl Baro Contact Phone/Extension:: x7003 Position Summary Information Job Description Summary:: Interpreter Mentors provide essential interpretation and translation services for clients of the Clinical Program and handle administrative aspects of the Community Interpreter Internship Program. » Fully accurate interpretation in client meetings and phone calls, following protocols for consecutive interpretation » Written translation of client communication and legal documents, following formal legal style and tone, which requires a high level of fluency in Spanish and English and practice in legal interpretation » Attend court proceedings to monitor the accuracy of court-assigned interpreters and alerting law students and faculty of any inaccuracies » Review and revise written assignments by students enrolled in the Community Interpreter Internship Program » Observe interns in the Community Interpreter Internship Program during client meetings and providing feedback on accuracy and skill » Ensure full coverage and maintaining records of all interpretation and translation assignments for clients of all 7 Clinics » Maintain confidentiality of all client information, including written materials » Exercise professional judgment when consulting with law students and faculty about interpretation issues » Manage time and adhering to time sensitive deadlines for client work product » Acquire and maintain expertise of any database or software necessary, including complex formatting in Microsoft Word, Google Forms and Google Sheets and legal vocabulary applications Requirements:: » Must have completed and excelled in the Community Interpreter Internship Program or otherwise demonstrated a high level of fluency in Spanish and English » Must have practice working in an office environment » Must have practice using software such as Word, Google Sheets and Forms Additional Information:: This posting is a portal for entering student information into our online employment system.
