Job Summary The Associate Vice President for Research Advancement and Strategy is seeking a Strategic Proposal Development Specialist. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

The Strategic Proposal Development (SPD) Specialist will work to expand the capacity of faculty teams to prepare large, complex, transdisciplinary competitive research and programmatic proposals for federal, state, and private funding. The SPD Specialist will facilitate proposal development of large-scale, interdisciplinary, and inter-institutional projects in collaboration with pre-award and research development professionals across the eleven colleges at Oregon State University (OSU), and any partnering institutions and organizations. Key responsibilities include coordinating the submission of large and complex proposals, providing proposal development know-how and input on grant readiness and competitiveness, organizing proposal review panels, and writing non-technical and institutional proposal sections.

The SPD Specialist will facilitate faculty funding success by identifying and tracking major funding opportunities using funding databases, federal agency websites, peer institutions' websites, and other resources. The SPD Specialist will assist in promoting consciousness of limited submission and large funding opportunities of $1M or more that are significant to OSU as an R1 institution, assisting in the management of internal competitions and contributing to communications via website and email newsletters.

The SPD Specialist will report to the Associate Vice President for Research Advancement and Strategy and will work collaboratively with the Office of Research Advancement (ORA) team to manage research development initiatives, programs, and engagement events that enable faculty to become more competitive in securing extramural funding for large transdisciplinary projects that advance OSU's Strategic Plan priorities.

Key Responsibilities 60% - Large Proposal Support
   » Foster and facilitate development and submission of complex, transdisciplinary, multi-institutional research grant proposals.
   » Coordinate faculty teams from proposal concept development to submission, working closely with proposal support from Colleges, OSRAA, and other OSU offices and bringing in external consultants when needed.
   » Plan and convene events with investigators to coordinate and enhance grant writing activities such as proposal team kickoff or design meetings.
   » Provide comprehensive editorial reviews of research proposals to ensure alignment with sponsor priorities and solicitation guidelines. When requested by principal investigators (PIs), provide developmental editing of content, organization, wording, and tone of the full document.
   » Support the drafting of non-scientific/scholarly sections of grant proposals such as Facilities and Other Resources, mentoring plans, or figures and graphical elements as needed.
   » Organize targeted proposal pre-submission reviews such as Pink or Red Team panels with OSU or external experts, or contracted consultants.
   » Assist PIs to determine institutional support needs at the proposal stage, such as designated space and/or space renovations, additional equipment, or dedicated staff within specific OSU offices to provide project support.

15% - Limited Submission Competitions and Funding Opportunity Distribution
   » Anticipate future limited submission opportunities in specialty area(s). Summarize funding opportunities, prepare online application forms and landing pages, market to OSU community, and post on InfoReady software.
   » Develop timely announcements for limited submissions and for other funding opportunities that align with the OSU research strategic plan. Develop and implement strategies (in collaboration with ORA team) to notify faculty via announcements, newsletters, ORA web site etc.
   » Manage or assist with institutional limited submission competitions including reviewing internal Notices of Intent, confirming eligibility, and determining the need for and recruiting ad hoc reviewers.
   » Contribute to continuous process improvement of limited submissions with the ORA team.
   » Develop and share knowledge of research funding landscape and of federal funding agency strategic plans for sponsors of strategic interest to the university.

20% - Program Management and Research Development Operations
   » In collaboration with the ORA team and other units or colleges, plan events and trainings and develop resources to engage faculty in strategic research development.
   » Manage other Research Office internal funding incentive programs as assigned.
   » Develop, monitor, and communicate ORA's metrics, results, and impact.
   » Other tasks as assigned.

5% - Professional Development and Training
   » Participate in significant training and development opportunities provided by Oregon State University, regional, state, and national organizations, and sponsoring agencies.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule This position may have an in-person, hybrid, or fully remote location. The incumbent in this position must be available to meet virtually with researchers, teams, ORA staff, and other university partners during standard working hours of 8 am - 5 pm Pacific Time.
