Position Summary Information

Job Summary/Basic Function: About the function:

The Director of Finance is responsible for superviseing all financial activities of Lamar University, ensuring compliance with significant regulations and policies, and providing strategic financial guidance to senior leadership abilities. This position reports to the Chief Financial agent and supervises the Finance Department staff.

What You'll Do - Position tasks

   » Financial Planning and Analysis: Coordinate the development of annual budgets, financial forecasts, and long-term financial plans. Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations to senior leadership abilities. 25%
   » Financial Reporting: Prepare and distribute accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other reporting requirements. 20%
   » Compliance and Risk Management: Monitor compliance with significant regulations, policies, and procedures. Identify and mitigate financial risks. Coordinate internal and external audits. 15%
   » Financial Operations: supervise day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and procurement. Implement best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness. 20%
   » Supports organization financial objectives by providing financial analyses and recommendations and directing accounting and property management staff. 10%
   » Develops accounting organizational strategies by contributing accounting and financial information, analysis, and recommendations for strategic thinking and direction, and establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives. 5%
   » Helps to establish accounting operational strategies by evaluating trends, determining production, productivity, quality, and customer-service strategies, and resolving problems. 5%
   » Monitors appropriations in the state treasury and makes recommendations regarding use and management of those funds. 3%
   » Helps maintain compliance with pronouncements from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and federal and state tax laws. 2%

Physical Requirements:

Minimum Appropriate qualifications:
   » Bachelor's degree in accounting & finance.
   » Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible financial leadership abilities practice, preferably in higher education or a large organization.
   » Strong knowledge of financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
   » Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
   » Proficiency in financial management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
