Minimum Qualifications

EducationMinimum: Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Adult Education, Psychology, Human Services, or related area from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.

Position Description

Summary
The Access to Achievement Advisor, in collaboration with Adult Education, Student Services, and Workforce Continuing Education, will provide leadership abilities in expanding, creating, and promoting retention and transition activities and career pathway programs for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Primary administrative responsibilities include meeting with new and prospective students, advising students, providing interventions for students at risk of dropping out, tracking and reporting student results, and superviseing the partnership between Curriculum and Workforce Continuing Education to provide appropriate options and resources to students with IDD, and expanding Integrated Educational and Training pathways for IDD students. The Advisor will be JCC's primary contact for students who self-report/disclose an IDD diagnosis, will serve as a liaison with workforce development staff, community agencies, and local employers to assist in the pursuit of employment for students with IDD, and will advocate for inclusion of students with IDD in all aspects of college and campus life. Perform related work as required.
Essential tasks and Responsibilities include the following. Other tasks may be assigned.
   » Serve as the primary contact for students who self-report/disclose an IDD diagnosis.
   » Interview students and/or parents/guardians to establish interests and goals.
   » Present options located on student interests using written materials, tours, and meetings with program/department heads. These options might include Adult Education programs, Continuing Education programs, and/or Curriculum programs.
   » Develop a person-centered plan and complete the required documentation of the plan.
   » Guide students in the application process, or refer them if necessary
   » Refer students to other services as determined appropriate (Career Counselor, Accessibility Services Coordinator, Human Resources Development, Tutoring, Mental Health Services, etc.).
   » Schedule bi-weekly follow-up and check-ins with students for the entirety of their enrollment in college courses.
   » Follow up with instructors regularly regarding student progress.
   » Inform students of campus events, opportunities, and activities, providing a personal invitation to students to participate in these activities.
   » Assist with the development and expansion of Integrated Education and Training career pathways for students with IDD.
   » Participate in local marketing, outreach, and recruitment events and activities with Johnston County Public Schools, employers, community agencies, etc. to help recruit students for JCC programs.
   » Track student results as determined by required reporting to NCCCS and other results as determined locally.
   » Create and submit reports to the NCCCS biannually.
   » Continue to track and follow up with students for six months after separation from college services/programs.
   » Serve as a liaison with workforce development staff, community agencies, and local employers to help obtain employment opportunities for students.
   » Facilitate instructional and assistive device resource selection and work with the JCC IDD working committee, department chairs, and VPs.
   » Contribute to the development and implementation of the IDD Training Program budget.
   » Attend and participate in Adult Education meetings as needed with the VP of Continue Education, Department Chair of ACR, and other JCC staff meetings as needed.
   » Provide everyday and continuing oversight of facilities, equipment, and student records including: maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment. providing for the security of facilities, equipment, and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions.
   » Complying with all applicable college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
   » Identify/promote professional development for instructors/staff to support excellent teaching and services for students with IDD.
   » Participate in professional development activities to maintain currency in the field and as required by NCCCS.
   » Demonstrate and model the College's employcapability expertise: adaptcapability, communication, information processing, problem-solving, responsibility, and teamwork
   » Performs other tasks as assigned.
