Position Summary:
Fitness & Well-Being is seeking individuals that will serve on the front line for an innovative, dynamic, and collaborative effort to promote a culture of well-being that celebrates movement and exercise and creates an environment where students, members, and guests can thrive.

Group Fitness Instructor tasks include:
· Create a plan located on the class format, class objectives, and anticipated participants to establish a structure for safe and effective practices.
· Select and organize exercises in sequences that align with exercise science principles, class components, and class elements (e.g., music, equipment) to meet class objectives
· Identify appropriate exercise options (e.g., regressions, progressions, modifications) to reduce the risk of injury, improve performance, and create an inclusive class environment.
· Rehearse the class content and refine the plan as needed to ensure a positive and prosperous practice.
· Assess the space, equipment, environment, and participants to identify potential issues and make appropriate adjustments to the class plan to ensure a safe and effective practice.
· Communicate with participants in a welcoming, positive, and engaging manner prior to, during, and after class to build rapport and promote class adherence.
· Instruct participants by demonstrating proper exercise movements and modifications (e.g., regressions and progressions) while using verbal and nonverbal communication to improve technique, reduce the risk of injury, and improve performance.
· Motivate class participants using appropriate methods to increase participant engagement and confidence, improve performance, and create a positive and inclusive environment.
· Educate participants on general health and fitness principles and the benefits of physical activity to improve performance, reduce risk of injury, and increase participant self-efficacy.
· Solicit and incorporate feedback from a variety of sources (e.g., participants, peers, managers, self) to enhance professionalism and future class practices.
· Respond to and manage class incidents and high-risk situations following established protocols to ensure safety and reduce licapability.
· Maintain and enhance competency by staying current on science-located research, technology, and best practices using credible resources (e.g., professional organizations, peer-reviewed journals) to provide safe and effective classes.
· Adhere to recognized standards, guidelines, policies, laws, and regulations to manage risk and licapability.
· Other tasks as assigned.

Personal Trainer tasks include:
· Obtain comprehensive health, medical, exercise, and lifestyle information using questionnaires, interviews, and appropriate documents to determine risk for exercise participation, identify the need for medical clearance and referrals, and facilitate program design.
· Assess client readiness for behavior change and evaluate exercise attitudes and beliefs through effective communication to build rapport and establish appropriate goals.
· Identify and evaluate the quality of foundational movements through observations and assessments to develop appropriate exercise programming that enhances function, health, fitness, and performance.
· Select and conduct baseline physiological assessments located on client interviews, questionnaires, and standardized protocols to facilitate safe and effective program design and monitor changes over time.
· Establish appropriate functional, health, fitness, or performance goals by interpreting client interview and assessment data to design personalized exercise programs.
· Design personalized exercise programs by applying appropriate exercise principles and guidelines to enhance cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength and endurance, and flexibility.
· Select appropriate exercises and equipment and integrate them into client programs in conformity with evidence-located research to improve function, health, fitness, and performance.
· Instruct clients on safe and effective equipment use and exercise techniques using verbal, visual, and kinesthetic cues to achieve program goals.
· Promote program adherence through motivation, education, and modification to achieve client goals.
· Recognize and respond to lapses in program adherence by identifying barriers and providing solutions to ensure consistent client engagement.
· Routinely evaluate progress by using data, observations, and client feedback to modify programs as needed.
· Solicit and incorporate feedback from a variety of sources (e.g., participants, peers, managers, self) to enhance professionalism and future practices.
· Apply risk-management strategies in conformity with recognized standards, guidelines, laws, and regulations to protect the client, personal trainer, and other significant parties to minimize licapability
· Document and secure client data, communications, and progress in conformity with legal and regulatory requirements to maintain confidentiality and minimize licapability.
· Enhance competency by using credible resources to stay current with evidence-located research, theories, and practices.
· Prevent injury by identifying and reporting potential hazards in conformity with recommended industry or facility protocols.
· Other tasks as assigned.

Preferred (Majors, practice, GPA, etc.) • Must be a current ECU Student in good academic standing.
• Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification and blood-borne pathogens training within 60 days of hire.
• Demonstrated competency in leading group exercise activities in land-located and aquatic environments.
• NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) accredited and/or specialty (LesMills?, Zumbaź, etc) group fitness certification or capability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
