Min Hourly Rate $14.20 (Standard); $13.20 (Non-Urban); $15.45 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.00 (Standard); $20.50 (Non-Urban); $21.50 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Justice, Equity and Diversity Beat Reporter position for the Orange Media Network (OMN) at Oregon State University (OSU). The OMN Justice, Equity and Diversity reporter is responsible for researching, pitching and writing/creating content specific to issues surrounding justice, equity, diversity and belonging on Oregon State University's campus. Content will be published both in print and online, as assigned by the editors-in-chief of The Barometer, Beaver's Digest or DAMchic. Justice, equity and diversity are topics that are the responsibility of all representatives of OMN media staffers. The Justice, Equity and Diversity Beat Reporter will specialize in this area. Position tasks Responsibilities » Connect and build relationships with individuals and communities whose focus is equity, inclusion, belonging and justice. This includes clubs and organizations, campus diversity offices, campus cultural centers and other affiliated entities. » Meet with various individuals/organizations in person or via email, phone or Zoom a minimum of once each week to develop story ideas. » Create for publication a minimum of two pieces of content each week. Develop one or more additional story pitches for weekly cohort meetings. Content should be varied and should include stories such as profiles, event previews, in-depth issues, investigations, breaking news and more. » Work with photographers and designers to enhance content through photos, graphics and multimedia. » Bring information and learning gained from working with individuals and communities to share with OMN cohorts as Information technology occurs. » Attend all cohort meetings as required by editor(s) in chief; communicate attendance plans in advance. » Able to act as mentor to new hires. » Provide fair and accurate coverage. » Meet deadlines as assigned » Participate in readouts with editors to make any necessary revisions in style or content. Communicate any errors and corrections to editor-in-chief. » Act in a professional manner at all times and create and maintain collegial working relationships with fellow student leaders and organization members. » Other tasks as assigned by the editor. Communication » Respond to emails, messages, team chats and phone calls the same day, professionally representing OMN » Ensure you are using, checking and responding to project management platform (Basescamp, Discord, etc.) » Proactively communicate work status to editor(s). » Work 10 regular office hours each week for Orange Media Network, at least half of these hours should be during regular business hours (8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday). Hours may vary during different stages of the term » Notify adviser immediately should any ethical, legal, personnel or controversial problems occur leadership abilities » Follow all OMN policies and procedures » Act professionally at all times » Ensure designs and content are centered on equitable representation and inclusion, with attention to impact on historically underrepresented and marginalized communities and constituencies Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: http://fa.oregonstate.edu/stu-manual/500-employment-eligibility-requiremen ts » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
