Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill four part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Academic Coach positions for the Academic Success Center (ASC) at Oregon State University (OSU).

At the Academic Success Center (ASC) , we believe in each student's capability to set goals and decide their best path towards achieving those goals. The ASC includes a number of programs and offerings, including drop-in support (Strategist program), Academic Coaching, Supplemental Instruction (group study tables), workshops, ALS 116: Academic Success (2-credit course), and our online Learning Corner.

Academic Coaches do not provide tutoring or content-specific academic support. Rather, Academic Coaches support fellow OSU students in developing their own plans to work holistically towards their broader academic goals (time management, study expertise, etc.). This happens in scheduled, 45-minute coaching sessions in-person and over Zoom. In those sessions, Academic Coaches use our coaching model to:
   » actively listen to understand
   » offer care, clarity, and non-judgment
   » celebrate and highlight insights, ideas, and plans
   » support creating plans to work towards goals
   » offer resources and strategies
   » ?and more!
Appointments happen in the Academic Success Center's coaching space, next to our drop-in space in Waldo 125. Most Academic Coaches work 7 hours per week. Regular shifts and on-the-job training start fall 2024. (Initial paid training will be offered in late spring 2024 and over the summer.) prosperous candidates are expected work as Academic Coaches for at least the 2024-2025 academic year.

   » Wages starting at $15.15 per hour, with annual pay increases.
Position tasks I. Facilitate one-on-one 45-minute coaching appointments in-person and over Zoom. (65%) - Coaching includes active listening, asking questions, providing authentic appreciation, offering options, adjusting strategies to fit goals and preferences, and writing down ideas and plans. Coaches protect student information (following FERPA guidelines) and maintain boundaries and attentiveness in conversations that often include exploring stressors to seek solutions.
II. Communication About Appointments (15%) - Use systems, including scheduling software and appointment notes, to internally track and communicate appointment information as necessary (following FERPA guidelines to protect student information) and to send emails to clients.
III. Engage in professional development activities , including attending weekly staff meetings. (20%)

   » Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
   » Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
   » Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
   » High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
   » Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
   » Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
   » Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
   » Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered ?full-time? by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

   » Availcapability to work in-person on the Corvallis campus for three or more terms, starting in the 2024-2025 school year

   » Availcapability to work all over the 2025-2026 academic year
   » Interest in facilitating remote and/or in-person academic success workshops
   » Interest in supporting visitors in the drop-in space to access resources
   » Eligibility for federal work-study
