Primary Purpose of Department The mission of the Undergraduate Admissions Office is to meet the established University enrollment goals by recruiting undergraduate candidates. Our goal is to recruit candidates who can contribute to and profit from the University in academic programs and activities; assisting prospects and candidates in realizing their academic ambitions through counseling; accurately and efficiently reviewing academic credentials and notifying candidates of decisions; and providing the University community with data necessary for advising and enrollment planning.

We value our position as the first contact a prospective student or the general public may have with the University. Providing timely and accurate information and effectively monitoring the admissions process is critical to the prosperous recruitment of qualified students. Functionally, the office staff works closely with the faculty and support units on campus and with high school counselors, parents, and community college counselors off-campus.

Primary Purpose of Position The Passport Program is a co-sponsored program between UNC Charlotte's Undergraduate Admissions Office and the Transfer Resource Center at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC). The program offers counseling and advising to a select group of students at CPCC. In addition, the program offers a course at UNC Charlotte, social and academic programming and individualized attention.

The Passport Coordinator is the primary contact for the Passport Program for prospective and current Passport students as well as a resource for students who have already prosperously transitioned to UNC Charlotte.

Summary of Position Responsibilities Through education, practice and training, the Passport Program Coordinator is recognized as an expert on the following topics: the college admissions process, planning for college, prosperously making the transition from high school to college and from the community college to the university, transfer advising, course selection and academic success. He/she manages the Passport Program with CPCC. The Passport Coordinator is the primary contact for the Passport Program for prospective and current Passport students as well as a resource for students who have already prosperously transitioned to UNC Charlotte. The Coordinator offers individualized counseling sessions and academic advising to Passport Students. In addition, he/she develops programming initiatives for students to assist with academic and social success in college, and coordinates academic advising and orientation programs for new students. The Passport Program Coordinator uses discretion and judgement when reviewing application files and rendering admissions decisions. The Coordinator utilizes academic plans of study to assist students in course selection and planning.

The Passport Program Coordinator assists in teaching several sections of UCOL 1000 at UNC Charlotte each semester. This course emphasizes academic success expertise and career planning, as well as transition planning. Information technology introduces students to the various resources at UNC Charlotte that support student success and aid in their transition to UNC Charlotte.

The Passport Program Coordinator is responsible for gathering and evaluating data on student performance and making changes to the programming offered located upon the conclusions drawn from this data. The Coordinator will also prepare annual report data on the Passport Program.

These responsibilities allow the incumbent to impact the lives and futures of individuals in the process of higher education. They also place the Passport Program Coordinator in the forefront of the public eye, thus creating a positive impression which enhances the University's position and credibility in the region and with our largest feeder community college.

Minimum Education/practice
   » Master's Degree required, or
   » Bachelor's Degree with equivalent practice.
   » Excellent oral and written communication expertise and strong interpersonal expertise.

   » Master's Degree or equivalent combination if education and practice.
   » 3-5 years of college admissions practice with increasing levels of responsibility in college admissions.
