Mandatory Personnel

This position is designated as ?mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.

Primary Purpose of Position This position performs building services activities all over the Center City Building to ensure that the building meets established Unit standards. Also performs accurate room/common area set-ups and tear-downs for events, in and around the building as directed.

Minimum Education/practice Required Minimum Appropriate qualifications:

Some expertise of cleaning procedures, capability to follow instructions and to execute medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.

University Preferred Appropriate qualifications:

Some expertise of cleaning procedures, one year of practice demonstrating the capability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.

Essential Job tasks
   » Performs custodial services support for the University.
   » Clean and care for academic buildings, offices, studios, other State buildings, and the grounds surrounding University and State facilities.
   » Maintain equipment and keep in good working order.
   » Compile and maintain checklists and report needs to BES manager or appropriate lead BES Technician in the absence of the manager.
   » Assist the BES manager and lead Technicians in testing and making policies and procedures recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.
   » Follow established Facilities Management, UNC Charlotte, and State Policies and Procedures.
   » Use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in floor maintenance, housekeeping, recycling, event support, and exterior litter removal functions.
Other Work Responsibilities
   » Assist the BES manager and lead Technicians in testing and making recommendations on supply and equipment purchases.
   » Work is guided by a everyday schedule for general assignments.
   » Work is performed subject to close review and inspection with problems and special assignments not covered by instructions referred to a manager.
   » tasks are repetitive and include physically strenuous activities such as moving furniture, operating heavy cleaning equipment, wearing a backpack vacuum, and delivering large quantities of housekeeping supplies.
   » Perform other related tasks as assigned and/or delegated.
Departmental Preferred practice, expertise, Training/Education
   » High school diploma or GED equivalent.
   » Some expertise of cleaning procedures, one year of practice demonstrating the capability to follow instructions in operating specialized floor-cleaning or other cleaning equipment and in performing medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and practice.
   » Three years practice in institutional housekeeping with floor care practice preferred.
   » capability to properly use and care for all manual and power equipment and chemicals required in Building Environmental Services and floor care functions.
   » Computer literate, expertise and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and availability to lgain new programs.
   » Effective interpretation expertise in verbal, written, comprehension and interpersonal communication needed.
   » capability to effectively work/interact with customers, students, staff and faculty and capability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
   » Where applicable, must be eligible for required certification.
   »A valid driver's license. The BES Technician who operates assigned vehicles on and/or off-campus must possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment to the position.
