Job Summary/Basic Function: General Description:
The Mary and John Gray Library at Lamar University seeks an innovative and creative individual to join our team as University Archivist. Reporting to the Dean of the Library, the University Archivist provides leadership abilities for the continuing development, operation, and promotion of the University Archives and Special Collections and serves as the University Records Manager. The Archivist will also participate in the planning for a new Archives and Special Collections Center. The Archivist will work closely with the Dean of the Library in seeking external funding for the growth and development of the unit and its collections, and will actively seek opportunities for regional, statewide, and national partnerships. The Archivist will supervise a staff consisting of one full-time librarian and three full-time staff members. This is a tenure-track faculty position. income is commensurate with practice and qualifications.

» supervise the operations of the University Archives, Special Collections, and Records Management.
» Serve as University Records Manager, supported by a certified Records Management adjunct.
» supervise the creation of finding aids for the archival and special collections using current best practices.
» Develop a long term vision for the unit that fits the strategic direction of the university and library.
» Develop and disseminate appropriate policies and procedures.
» Develop and maintain the unit's record of provenance and usage rights.
» supervise outreach efforts to the university community to increase usage of collections in support of learning and research.
» Manage the unit's reference assistance service.
» Work with the Dean to develop sources of external funding, including donations and grants.
» Continue to develop Special Collections by soliciting donations of materials and through selective acquisitions.
» Maintain and update professional knowledge and expertise on a continuing basis.
» Perform other tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education & practice): suitable education
• A Master's degree in Library or information Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program is required.
» Five years of full-time practice in a university archives or Special Collections department, with a record of increasing responsibility, is required.

Knowledge, expertise, and Abilities:
» Knowledge of current trends and best practices in the archival, special collections, and records management fields.
» Knowledge and practice in the use of archival and metadata standards, such as EAD, Dublin Core, and MODS.
» A demonstrated desire and record of developing professional expertise and knowledge.
» Familiarity and practice with digital tools, such as ArchiveSpace, institutional repositories (IR), Photoshop, and a high level of familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
» Effective oral and written communication expertise.
» capability to work with and serve a diverse community of faculty, students, researchers, and members of the community.
» A record of accomplishment in the areas of scholarship and/or professional service appropriate for appointment as a tenure-track faculty member.
Preferred Qualifications (Education & practice): • Preferred: Certification by the Academy of Certified Archivists (ACA).
• Preferred: A second graduate degree in History or other appropriate discipline.
