Position Summary This position with be used to fill up to six part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week) Student Technical adjunct positions for the Department of Food Science and Technology (FST) at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position performs undergraduate research or field work in support of Dr. Joy Waite-Cusic's food safety/food microbiology research program.

Position tasks tasks will be determined by Dr. Waite-Cusic, but may include research collaboration and related field work, data gathering and analysis, writing research reports and papers, and other tasks as assigned.

85% Design, carry out, interpret, and report on experiments dealing with food microbiology. The candidate must analyze data, document activity, draw conclusions, and write up findings to be included in reports published in journals and/or presented at conferences. The position will also include organizational work pertaining to this topic, including documentation of appropriate samples and significant experimental methods.
   » Experiments may be conducted in a BSL-2 lab, in farm fields, in greenhouses and in food processing facilities.
15% The work will include some elementary laboratory organization/design, where needed, in order to increase the laboratory's efficiency for such experiments.

   » Preferred student be enrolled in an undergraduate degree program (FST, MB, H, or related discipline).
   » Research practice in a BSL-2 food microbiology laboratory.
   » Completion of upper division food or fermentation microbiology courses.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule To be determined through coordination with Dr. Waite-Cusic. Conditions vary depending on project.

   » May require maneuvering and transporting heavy objects and working with industrial machinery.
